Housing Shortage in Patna
As throughout most of India there is a housing shortage in Patna. Many cities in all of India are struggling with a shortage of housing because there is just an overload of people in such a small area and the housing is just not adequate for them. Patna is one of the cities most effected by this because there are over 1.2 million residents all trying to squeeze into a small geographical area. This makes for a tough housing situation and makes the value of the homes that are there go up because they are highly sought after.

As India’s housing shortage continues to plague Patna it is easy to see why. The greater population is just offset by the non-growing housing market. While urban dwellers suffer more than rural residents, there is still a problem throughout Patna when it comes to proper housing. There is just a shortage of homes for the people. The problem seems to be heavily affecting all the cities of India which support more than one million people.

Patna’s problem subsists because there are just many more households (166,000) than homes available (154,000). The Patna government plans to help cure this offset in homes vs. households by funding more homes to build. As the number of houses increases, the number of people needing them will decrease.

It is a problem that India has been facing over the past several years as the largest cities, Patna included, are taking the biggest hits. It is tough for residents to deal with the overpopulation with not enough housing because this leads to an increase in disease and improper living environments for those without homes.
