About Patna

Patna is the capital of Bihar, which serves as one of the most inhabited places in the entire world. The city of Patna actually sits bordering three rivers- the Ganga, Sone and the Poonpun. With the Gandak river just due north of the city it makes for a special four river city.


Patna is a large, busy city of more than 1.2 million people, all fitting into a city that borders 15km by 7km by 5km. The city not only serves as the capital of Bihar but it also acts as the educational center and a large historical emphasis is felt there as well.


As far as history is talked of in Patna, it is best known through the mythological king Putraka who allegedly discovered/ created the city. The city was supposed to be a present for his wife, the queen Patali. Recorded history dates back to about 490 BC during the war between Magadh and Vaishali.
Patna enjoys a great warm climate during the summer months, nearing tropical heat intensity. The summer begins in April and continues until August when the torrid rains fight through to provide much needed coolness to the dwellers. Starting in November Patna receives below freezing temperatures and snowy, yet sunny, days to the city.


With over 1.2 million residents Patna is a growing city that offers a low crime rate and a diverse group of people. Among those in the city there are prevalent speakers of Angika, Bhojpuri, Maithili and Oriva, yet the main language spoken is Magahi.


The growing city of Patna is a great place to visit and a great place to live.
